Course Outlines

First Aid for Kids (8-12)

6 Hours, F2F.

This course introduces the concepts of first aid, the primary assessment and how to help someone who has become sick or injured.

Upon successful completion, participants receive a certificate of completion.

Essential Life-Saving Skills

8 Hours, F2F or Hybrid.

This course covers direct interventions to immediately life-threatening conditions including cardiac arrest, choking, heart attack, stroke, and anaphylaxis

This course has no prerequisites and is suitable for participants with no prior training. Upon successful completion, participants receive certification, valid for three (3) years.

Essential Paediatric First Aid

8 Hours, F2F or Hybrid.

This course introduces a broad range of paediatric concerns including safely approaching emergency situations, patient assessment including vital signs, unresponsiveness, anaphylaxis, and other common medical and traumatic mechanisms of injury.

This course has no prerequisites and is suitable for participants with no prior training. Upon successful completion, participants receive certification, valid for three (3) years.

 

Standard First Aid

16 Hours, F2F or Hybrid.

This course is designed to teach participants the knowledge and skills necessary to provide competent first aid to patients presenting with common injuries and ilnesses.

This course has no prerequisites and is suitable for participants with no prior training. Upon successful completion, participants receive certification, valid for three (3) years.

Occupational First Aid

24 Hours, F2F or Hybrid, or 8 Hours F2F for current SFA or AFA certificants.

This course expands on the curriculum of standard first aid, including modules on oxygen administration, occupational health and safety, incident management, incident respose planning and emergency evacuation.

This course has no prerequisites and is suitable for participants with no prior training. Upon successful completion, participants receive certification, valid for three (3) years.

Paediatric First Aid

24 Hours, F2F or Hybrid, or 8 Hours F2F for current SFA or AFA certificants.

This course expands on the curriculum of standard first aid, including modules on infant and child CPR, infant respiratory emergencies, objects in ear/eyes/nose/throat, dental trauma, poisoning and meningitis.

This course has no prerequisites and is suitable for participants with no prior training. Upon successful completion, participants receive certification, valid for three (3) years.

Elder Care First Aid

24 Hours, F2F or Hybrid, or 8 Hours F2F for current SFA or AFA certificants.

This course expands on the curriculum of standard first aid, including modules on senescence, falls and mobility, medication management, cognitive impairement, nutrition and hydration, skin care, incontinence care, end-of-life care, and elder care abuse awareness.

This course has no prerequisites and is suitable for participants with no prior training. Upon successful completion, participants receive certification, valid for three (3) years.

Outdoor Recreation First Aid

24 Hours, F2F or Hybrid, or 8 Hours F2F for current SFA or AFA certificants.

This course expands on the curriculum of standard first aid, including modules on environmental medicine, snake bites, traumatic brain injury and spine injury.

This course has no prerequisites and is suitable for participants with no prior training. Upon successful completion, participants receive certification, valid for three (3) years.

Advanced First Aid

40 Hours, F2F or Hybrid

The definitive first aid course. This course takes a deeper dive into vital signs and anatomy & physiology, then includes all four modules: Occupational First Aid, Paediatric First Aid, Elder Care First Aid, and Outdoor Recreation First Aid; and culminates with an exploration of triage and mass casualty incident management.

Participants must hold a current 16 hour first aid certification to enol. Upon successful completion, participants receive certification, valid for three (3) years.
